Women’s March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies to take part in a #NationalSchoolWalkout for 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2018 to protest Congress’ continued inaction in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods.
A group of eight graders at Cedar Park has taken the initiative to show solidarity with the students from Parkland who started this movement to push Congress to take action to strengthen gun laws to keep our children safe at school and in their communities.
At CPMS, the plan is to:
- Walk out of class at 10:00 am into the cafeteria (not leaving the school). Teachers will allow students to leave class to head to the cafeteria, where they will be supervised.
- Have a minute of silence
- Write cards to representatives in Congress and the students from Parkland
- Walk back to class at 10:17am
If your child is interested, encourage them to participate and wear orange (orange is the color of the movement to end gun violence).
